1. This is the Cunningham farmhouse in Aultsville, Ont. where Don spent many a happy day while off school in the summers. 2. This is a picture of Glen's 3 children, Gary, and the twins. 3. The 3 Cunningham brothers - Bert, Ralph & Glen, and wives, Vera, Rita, and Maureen. Maureen died shortly after the birth of her twins; Glen then married Iris. 4. Don's Grandparents - Mary & Roy Cunningham. Roy was initially a school teacher and Mary one of his students. (She got high grades). They then spent their life farming. 5. We visit the Cunningham family gravesite in Aultsville, Canada, w/Uncle Glen. Some of the Cunningham ancestors. Michael Hoople migrated from Germany in the early 1700's and settled in upstate New York. My Dad, Ralph Cunningham, is a direct descendant. Some Hooples remained Loyalists and went to Canada during the Revolution, some fought on the side of the "rebels". These pages are from "The Hooples of Hoople's Creek" by E. L. Hoople (Ryerson Press, Toronto - 1967). Life on the frontier was rough! Mary Cunningham (nee Gallinger), Don's Grandmother, was a direct descendent of German Henry Hoople. This extract paints a vivid picture of the deep trauma that hit the Hoople Family due to the Revolutionary War. It split "Royalists" from "Rebel" family members. Royalists were forced to flee to Canada. "Rebels" fought against the British. Also read about the terror of "the massacre" in an attack by Indians. Here are some shots taken on a brief but very wonderful March 2002 visit to Sarasota by Bert (Uncle Glen's Son) and Linda Cunningham & two of their three children, Brock & Blaire. Amber, their oldest, was away on her Senior trip & was unable to join them. We were enthralled by how Bert takes on international projects designed to help nations struggling with their finances - customs income, etc. Bert was honored as Mautitius "Man of the Year" for his work with their corrupt customs services (dangerous work!). Pray for them. See article below (click to expand & then click the "expand button" on lower right to read):
Linda always impresses us with her sweet spirit. Brock & Blaire are great kids, love to swim and logged lots of pool time. We dearly loved seeing Bert and His Family & renewing long-overdue relations. Next, pictures received from Bert & Linda Cunningham in March 2002 - Glen & Iris, Glennis & Gerben, Jordan, Blaire, Morgan, and Kristen. We are so blessed with our wonderful relatives in Canada. Glen & Iris are very active in the community, raising greenhouse flowers, yes - even bottling wine! PLT!
