Rita's Mother's Side
Rose (nee Anna Rosa Giorgio) and her husband, Enrico Abate, came over from Italy in 1894. He was a stowaway on his ship, not an uncommon practice in those days, since many immigrants had little money. We believe that these are their immigration records from Ellis Island.
Rita's Grandmother, Rose Abate, was a very classy, proper lady who only spoke Italian. She lived long enough to thread a needle on her 100th birthday!
Grandma Abate (age 78) with her granddaughter Norma Ermilio (Abate) and Greatgranddaughter Joyce in 1947. Threading a needle at 100. Ellis Island records/Manifests for Enrico and Anna Rosa.
